Windmills

As part of our learning about the POWER of air and wind, we made windmills. It was a long process and we had to use a lot of equipment to create them. It was great fun running around the field trying them out. They were very bright and colourful!

What else would you do on a hot day?

On a really hot day, Weka students went outside and were squirted with the hose to keep them cool. It was great fun and we started a trend with several of the other classes joining in after they had seen us having such a good time. We couldn't stay out in the sun for more that a few seconds at a time because it was very strong, but we managed to get a bit wet and then went back in the shade. We dried out quickly because of the warm day. Great fun!

We love to have new people in Weka...

This cheerful chap joined Weka recently. As you can see, he is settling in really well. He enjoys playing on the computer and playing with the cars and train set. He already know lots of things and is trying hard with his learning. Welcome to Weka!

Halswell School visits...

Talented Halswell School jazz band students visited our school and entertained us with their fabulous tunes! We were really lucky to be able to listen to a variety of different jazz styles and awesome (and loud) instruments. We saw saxophones, trombones, trumpets, a flute and a clarinet, a keyboard and an electric drum kit. The musicians were very talented and played well, especially for children so young!

Things that fly...

We have been learning about wind and air. We all made awesome parachutes and we flew them from the tall playground. They needed to be light and have a big thin thing to catch the air.

Junior Sports Day

Well, the day started off well with all children in cars and heading off down the road to lovely Broadfield School. We were off for our junior school athletic sports. Our bags were put into one of the classrooms and listened carefully to the instructions. We got put into teams and walked out to the court area. We had great fun doing lots of relay activities. Then there were some running races on the track area. Everyone sprinted their heart out! We had to run towards a tape. Rain started softly falling and it was quite nice at first because we were worn out with all our busy running. After a snack in one of the classrooms, we went outside for a little explore of the Broadfield playground. They have great things to play on. A set of activities including ball throwing, running over a ladder on the ground, shot putting, long jumping and hurdling were next - wow - lots of great things! We worked really hard to participate in all the events and do the best we could. We were SO AMAZING! Unfortunately, the rain decided to fall more heavily and the decision was made to end our athletic sports for 2011. It had been such a great day. Thanks to all the parents who helped with transport, supervision and encouragement. We really appreciated your support!

More mystery friends

Now who could these animals be...

Here are some mystery animals without their people.

Do you know who they belong to?

Animal friends at Pets Day

Here are some awesome photos of Weka students with their animal friends. It was a lovely fine day with a warm breeze and lots of sun. All pets were very well behaved today. It was great to meet them all.

Lovely Discovery Fair creations

Today we had our Pets Day. Children and their families had made such amazing creations - gardens, cupcakes, cards, beautiful floral arrangements, breads, ginger beer, gliders - everyone had been very imaginative. It was a real treat to look at.

Telling the time

We are learning about time as part of maths. We made an analogue clock and tried telling the time with it. It was weird!

We like Buddy Reading

On Fridays after our PMP floor session, we do buddy reading with Ruru and Tui. It is really fun because we get to share our poems and stories and books from the week with our friends in Ruru and Tui. They read to us, too. It's great.
